PermaCell Culture Inserts
Mattek PermaCell cell culture inserts and insert plates are specially designed for 3D organotypic cell culture applications and are available with a variety of membrane types, pore sizes, and formats including 8mm Inserts and 96-well Insert Plates. The 8mm Inserts are sold as 24 individual inserts in a 24-well plate and can be used as both standing or hanging inserts. To culture as hanging inserts, Hang Top 12-Well or Hang Top 24-Well plates can be purchased. The 96-well insert plate is an array of 96 membrane-bottom wells connected in a single, rigid tray. These cell culture inserts and insert plates can be used to create three-dimensional tissue cultures pertaining to your specific research needs.

PermaCell Culture Inserts
Mattek PermaCell Culture Inserts are sterile, tissue culture devices that are ideal for the growth/differentiation of cells and 3D organotypic culture. The 8mm inserts are uniquely designed to function as either standing or hanging inserts, allowing researchers increased flexibility when designing studies. The inserts are sold in 24-well plates (24 inserts/plate), but can be used in 6-, 12-, and 24-well culture plate formats. Various membrane types allow researchers to select inserts for specific needs, such as cell attachment, differentiation, organotypic 3D culture, drug transport/permeability, and imaging studies.
PermaCell inserts are specially designed for 3D organotypic tissue culture and are easily adaptable to TEER measurements and other analytical techniques.

- Pore size of 0.4µm or 8µm, custom pore sizes available
- PTFE, PET, PC membrane, and custom membranes available
- PTFE membranes have a high pore density and are clear in culture, which allows for visualization of cells via brightfield and fluorescent microscopy

Mattek offers PET, PC, PTFE as standard membrane options. Many cell types will grow directly in PermaCell Insert and Insert Plates. For cell types that require an extracellular matrix coating, we recommend the following special order coatings from Advanced BioMatrix:
