Sponsored by MatTek Corporation and the PETA International Science Consortium

The PETA International Science Consortium Ltd. (PISC) and MatTek Corporation are offering 3D reconstructed human tissue models – for free!

MatTek’s human cell-based tissues—including dermal, ocular, respiratory, intestinal, oral, and vaginal models—are used for regulatory safety testing, product development and basic research applications. To meet regulatory testing requirements, the EpiDermTM and EpiOcularTM models can be used according to internationally accepted test guidelines to determine chemical safety throughout the cosmetic, chemical, pharmaceutical, and household product industries. In product development and basic research, 3D models have been used in a broad range of experimental applications including drug delivery, inflammation, metabolism, apoptosis, and gene analysis, amongst many others.

Can you use MatTek tissues in your application? We invite you to submit a brief (500 words or less) proposal for the manner in which you would use MatTek tissues in either a new or existing application as in the following examples:

1)    New Experimental Application. Development of a new in vitro regulatory test method or use in research area that has historically used animals.

2)    Existing Application.  Become proficient in regulatory test methods that use EpiDerm including OECD test guidelines 431 (In Vitro Skin Corrosion: Reconstructed Human Epidermis (RhE) Test Method) or 439 (In Vitro Skin Irritation: RhE Test Method), or the draft test guideline that uses EpiOcular (Reconstructed Human Cornea-like Epithelium (RhCE) Test Method for the Detection of Chemicals not Requiring Classification for Eye Irritation or Serious Eye Damage). This option is only available to researchers and companies that have not previously used MatTek tissues.

The deadline to submit a proposal is 5 October 2015, and award winners will be announced on 2 November 2015.

Three winning proposals will be selected based on scientific merit and their potential to reduce and/or replace animal testing.  Three winners will receive a $5,000 award redeemable for MatTek tissues (at standard commercial prices). Researchers from any sector (e.g., industry, academia, government) are encouraged to apply. This opportunity is open to residents of the North America and Europe only.

No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.  Shipping eligibility restrictions may apply.  Award recipients are responsible for overnight shipping charges.

By submitting a proposal, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to PISC’s terms and conditions https://www.thepsci.eu/about/contest-terms-conditions/ and Privacy Policy https://www.thepsci.eu/about/privacy-policy/.

In addition to your 500 words or less proposal, please submit your name, affiliation, and email address.
