SUMMARY: This study by researchers at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, the Australian Animal Health Laboratory/CSIRO, Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Mount Sinai Hospital demonstrated that MatTek’s EpiAirway in vitro human tracheal/bronchial tissue equivalent provides an ideal system for assessing the interplay of host cell and viral factors in pathogenesis (human parainfluenza virus infection of airway epithelium), and for screening for inhibitory molecules that would be effective in vivo.
SUMMARY: This multi-center validation study performed by scientists at BfR (ZEBET), BASF SE, the Institute for In Vitro Sciences, Inc., the Centre for Alternative and Complementary Methods to Animal Testing (zet–LSL) and MatTek Corp. demonstrated that the modified Skin Irritation Test (SIT) based on MatTek’s EpiDerm in vitro human skin tissue equivalent can be used to as stand alone assay for the prediction of skin irritating and non-irritating test substances.
