MatTek Corp.
Contract Lab Qualification ProgramAs a matter of commercial policy, MatTek does NOT conduct routine toxicology or efficacy testing. We believe that this may conflict with the commercial interest of the contract laboratories that are MatTek's valued customers.
Other suppliers of in vitro models compete directly with contract testing labs and thus may interfere with a contract lab's established business relationships. MatTek considers its contract lab customers to be valuable partners.
MatTek maintains a list of contract labs that are qualified to work with MatTek's products / protocols. This list is sent to client companies that seek services such as dermal corrosion, dermal phototoxicity, skin irritation, ocular irritation, dermal, oral, and airway penetration testing studies, etc.
If a contract testing lab desires to be added to the list, MatTek offers a "Mutual Evaluation Plan" that allows the contract testing lab to become familiar with MatTek's products / protocols while MatTek becomes familiar with the contract testing lab's capabilities.
In general, the evaluation process is conducted as follows: after consulting with MatTek scientific personnel, the contract lab purchases the appropriate MatTek in vitro products for testing in their laboratory with certain known samples (controls), and other test articles that may be specified by MatTek. Upon completion of the testing, the contract lab reports their results to MatTek, and MatTek compares those results to the historical values for those test articles. If the results are satisfactory, the contract testing lab's name is added to the list of available contract labs. That list is distributed non-preferentially to companies that contact MatTek requesting in vitro testing.
As stated above, the cost of the in vitro products used in the evaluation process will be paid to MatTek by the contract lab before those products are shipped to the lab. Upon successful completion of the evaluation process, this cost can be recovered by the contract lab as a credit on the next 2 purchases of MatTek in vitro products. For example, if the contract lab purchased $1,000 worth of in vitro products for the evaluation process, then MatTek would deduct $500 from each of the next 2 purchases of MatTek in vitro products.
